About Katy Baldock #01

What kind of therapist is Katy Baldock?

I am a qualified psychotherapist, registered with the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, the professional body for psychotherapists). My professional life involves working with psychotherapy and counselling clients in my practices in Paddington, and in Kingston Upon Thames. Addtionally I supervise therapists, both privately and in small groups. I work as a staff member of the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE), facilitating and supervising diploma and MA students there. I sometimes lecture in law and psychotherapy on a number of degree/diploma programmes in the south east of england.

My work is integrative, although I have a strong orientation towards transpersonal work. An important professional and research interest of mine is dreams, (see my page on dreams and meaning elsewhere on the website), and I have significant experience and expertise in this area.

The perspective which informs my work is that the human personality is a work of art, which we continue to work on throughout our lives. Our problems and difficulties point us in the direction which we need to work next - what qualities are we going to need to get us through this particular challenge. Each part of ourselves which we balance out makes us more beautiful, more whole, and more fulfilled.

My professional background prior to becoming a therapist is that my first career was as a lawyer, and I worked in commercial litigation for around 10 years. I then worked in alternative dispute resolution as a mediator, both commercially and in the charity sector. While I was training as a therapist I worked (in both a voluntary and paid capacity) for small counselling charities, specialising in helping people who were recovering from sexual abuse, and later people who were dealing with bereavement. I have been working in private practice as a therapist since 2002.
